COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 4-day hands-on training course provides comprehensive and practical knowledge
on how to build powerful portable graphical user interfaces (GUIs) using Neuron Data's
OPEN INTERFACE ELEMENTS development tool. The detailed exploration of the entire
system and over 25 hands-on exercises develop the skills needed to rapidly create and
deploy GUIs that run across all the standard windowing environments, including
Microsoft Windows and Windows NT, Motif, Presentation Manager, Open Look and Macintosh
- all without changing a line of code. The course is divided into three parts. The
first part concentrates on understanding the essence of the tool which includes
structure. The second part focuses on each of the widgets available in the toolkit,
and the final part looks at the various ways in which windows can be implemented.
The course concludes with building the functionality for a custom widget.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Students who complete this class should be able to:
- Use Open Editor to design and build portable GUIs
- Create event-driven programs using the event notification procedures
- Modify the C or C++template to include the application's functionality
- Work with the Resource files and navigate the widget data structures
- Use the API for each of the widgets
- Understand the Class Resource hierarchy and its use
- Create makefiles automatically
- Generate standard, pinnable and modal windows, and create parent-child relationships, including multiple document interfaces
- Create windows and widgets at runtime
- Build the functionality for a custom widget
- Understand mouse tracking and keyboard handling
DATA ACCESS ELEMENT ( 5TH DAY - OPTIONAL)
The DATA ACCESS ELEMENT one-day class is an overview of the Data Access Element,
which provides an independent way of accessing database servers for OPEN INTERFACE
ELEMENTS applications. Covered topics include concepts & packaging of DAE,
scripting, C API and database requirements. Students will participate in hands-on
programming to access and manipulate databases using DATA ACCESS ELEMENT through
excercises in scripting and C.
