NEURON DATA SETS NEW PACE
IN HIGH-END APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT TOOLS MARKET
WITH NEW DISTRIBUTED ELEMENTS ENVIRONMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | ND-29
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 26, 1995 - Neuron Data today announced a distributed communications solution that, coupled with its award-winning cross-platform graphical user interface (GUI) builder, proven business rule processor and open data access capabilities, positions the company as a top contender in the high-end application development tools market. With an installed base of more than 25,000 developers and 1.2 million end-users worldwide, Neuron Data's distributed Elements Environment is the industry's first solution for building dynamically scalable enterprise applications. Based on a new tier-less multi-point and multi-network communications technology, Elements Environment surpasses other application development tools and proprietary middleware with its focus on high performance, openness and dynamic scalability.
"Neuron Data believes that the distibuted computing environment of the future will require a flexible, component-based architecture, and this is the strength of our Elements Environment," said Patrick Perez, chairman and CEO of Neuron Data. "With the addition of the Distributed Communciations component, Neuron Data continues to advance its powerful enabling technology for a new distributed computing environment."
"Neuron Data's new dynamic communications model allows an application to be distributed throughout an enterprise without being confined to a static architecture," said Chet Geschickter, vice president of research at Hurwitz Consulting Group. "Elements Environment's flexible, dynamic approach will enable developers to mix and match components including GUI, business rules, data access and now distributed communications based on changing business requirements."
KAIRE INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPS ENTERPRISE SOLUTIONS
Kaire International is a worldwide distributor of nutritional supplements and
a leading distributor of Pycnogenol, a popular antioxidant. The company has
achieved more than 300 percent growth over the last two years and is
developing a distributed, business-critical sales order and compensation
application that will service its 200,000 locations worldwide. With an
aggressive growth strategy in place, Kaire chose the new distributed Elements
Environment from Neuron Data to tackle the challenges of maintaining 100
percent uptime and the rapid processing of volumes of information in an
environment with many remote locations.
"We are impressed with Elements Environment because of its scalability, advanced distributed communications capabilities, open architecture for integrating with existing systems and powerful rules facility," said Clay Lambert, manager of applications development at Kaire International.
"Neuron Data's Distributed Communications solution is based on the only distributed computing technology available that intelligently handles the flow of information between clients and servers. If the home server goes down, transaction requests are automatically re-routed to the next available server. Companies like ours can't afford to lose transactions when using business-critical applications -- a hazard of implementing traditional middleware or high-end tool offerings."
DISTRIBUTED COMMUNICATIONS COMPONENT
Neuron Data's new Distributed Communications component includes several
unique capabilities:
Innovative Multi-point Architecture
Distributed Communications incorporates a unique architecture of routing
agents that effectively and automatically route information among the
partitioned modules of a distributed application. This architecture is
natively multi-point, thus Distributed Communications is more scalable and
flexible than point-to-point communication models. Further, using Distributed
Communications' "non-directed messaging" technique, developers can construct
highly flexible, multi-process communications code without being impeded by
having to pre-specify point-to-point addresses and platforms.
Support for Dynamic Configuration
Distributed Communications supports the dynamic configuration of distributed
applications. It establishes inter-process communication (IPC) based upon
data object types and properties rather than static addresses. Therefore,
connection patterns between application modules can be changed as often as
needed -- even while the application is running -- and Distributed
Communications automatically makes the necessary adjustments. Most
importantly, this capability eliminates the need to recompile the original
application as application modules, operating system software, platforms and
business processes are added or changed.
Building Distributed Applications -- No More Tiers
With Distributed Communications, each application component (GUI, data, rules,
application logic) can be partitioned, dynamically configured and
re-configured, as required by the true needs of a business. And this
distribution enables tier-less applications that support the business
requirements of the application.
Separation of Development and Deployment Decisions
Distributed Communications speeds distributed application development because
it allows any developer to easily and conveniently write the IPC code required
in distributed applications. In addition, developers can construct
application modules without knowing the target for the ultimate deployment
environment; thus, developers can focus on the task of developing the
application knowing that they will retain complete flexibility regarding
deployment options.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Neuron Data's Distributed Communications component is now available as a
stand-alone product or bundled with any other Elements Environment component.
Pricing starts at $7,500 per developer license. The Distributed Communications
component is currently available on Windows and Windows NT, Macintosh and IBM
OS/2, as well as a wide variety of UNIX systems including Sun, HP, SGI, IBM
and SCO. A variety of network protocols are also supported including TCP/IP,
Novell Netware, SLIP/PPP, serial and shared memory. There are no run-time
fees for any Neuron Data products.
