Factory Mutual Research
Factory Mutual Research is a non-profit company owned by three insurance
carriers. Factory Mutual researchers are using NEXPERT OBJECT to develop
an application that applies modeling software and rule-based technology to
the complex phenomenon known as "fire." The application gives field experts
insight into how fire progresses and the type of damage it causes.
GMIS
GMIS is a leading developer of strategic medical management systems
for the health insurance industry. GMIS has leveraged the portability
of the Elements Environment in two applications: Medical Appropriateness
System (MAPS) and Provider Insight, an analysis and executive information
station.
MAPS allows health insurance organizations to identify potentially
unnecessary and inappropriate care before it is delivered by screening
proposed health care services against clinically sophisticated criteria.
MAPS is based on NEXPERT OBJECT and uses 21 knowledge bases which encapsulate
the advice of experts regarding various procedures and therapies.
Based on OPEN INTERFACE ELEMENTS, Provider Insight enables managed care
providers and third-party administrators to review the care being given
by physicians in their networks. Users can gather and organize patient
information from member and provider data files and arrange it by episodes,
to help interpret overall physician performance.
Heritage Mutual Life Insurance
Heritage is a multi-line insurance company that stores and accesses all
of its data on an IBM mainframe. The company's goal is to reach "paperless,
peopleless processing" of insurance information. They developed an
application that utilizes NEXPERT OBJECT to process customer applications
with minimum amount of red-tape and paper handling. The application,
developed on an IBM mainframe, was deployed on Windows and RS6000 with
access to the IBM mainframe.
Liberty Life Insurance
Liberty Life Insurance in South Africa used SMART ELEMENTS in a personnel
application that screens candidates for employment positions. The
application's rules were written to determine the suitability of applicants
for sales positions at Liberty Life. The system runs on Windows and accesses
a Sybase database. Point-and-click development was a key factor in the
customer's decision to choose Neuron Data tools to develop the application.
Mercantile & General
Mercantile & General used NEXPERT OBJECT to develop MAGNUM. The application
is used by Mercantile & General field sales reps to access insurance
policies from their laptop PCs. This greatly simplifies and speeds up the
insurance underwriting process. Instead of making a second appointment to
complete the process, sales reps now can obtain client agreement
immediately.
